Who is BioHygiene?

In the late 1980’s some of BioHygiene’s founders first started working on environmental solutions across a variety of industries.

They believed that the technology needed for effective sustainable cleaning in the industrial sector simply wasn’t there 30 years ago, or even 10 years ago. ‘Eco’ companies used traditional technologies with a sprinkle of bacteria or enzyme leaving environmental cleaning products with a reputation for poor performance and high cost.

BioHygiene started offering solutions to markets more open to biotech – water and waste treatment, horticulture, landscaping, agriculture and marine, among others building a successful business.

More recently, they have introduced a range of products that are Cleaner, Leaner and Greener, including a eco friendly sanitiser range providing a complete virucidal and bacterial solution.  Approved to EN14476 for enveloped viruses, including coronviruses, eg. SARS-CoV-2.

  • It is important to note:
    • There is no official BS EN test for the residual effectiveness of sanitisers against bacteria or  viruses and hence no tests currently listed by the European Chemicals Agency to demonstrate residual activity under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR)
    • There is PAS 2424:2014, exclusively for the 24-hour residual effectiveness of disinfectants  against some bacteria and one yeast. It is important to note that this is not an official BS EN  test and may ultimately change and is only a 3-log reduction pass which may not bring the  level of bacteria below the recognised infectious dose of over 10-100 bacteria/viruses
    PAS 2424
    1. Products must have passed EN13697 (the standard surface test requiring a 4-log reduction) under appropriate conditions
    2. Incorporates a series of physical abrasions and the re-application of the test organisms to the test surface to simulate day to day conditions, as disinfected surfaces will rarely, if ever, stay pristine and untouched
    3. Is designed to test for a period of 24 hours only
    4. Must be tested against strains of bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus hirae and Escherichia coli and the yeast, Candida albicans
    5. Must be conducted under dirty conditions. This is obligatory
    6. Requires a 3 log (99.9%) reduction in microbial numbers to pass the test. As an example, for every 1 million bacteria, a 3-log reduction would leave 1,000 and a 4-log reduction would leave 100.  This applies to all sanitisers whatever their constituents without exception.
