We are keen to continue making a difference within the community, which is why our Portsmouth Period Poverty campaign is so important to us. If you have missed the campaign so far, we are collecting unopened sanitary items, tights and pants in our trade shop and donations online at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/CJSPortsmouthPeriodPoverty. The products collected and funds raised go directly to The Red Box Project – Portsmouth North, who deliver much needed boxes to schools across the local area.
If you are wondering why schools are in need of such boxes then you will not be aware that 12% of girls in the UK have had to improvise sanitary items due to a lack of money, using anything from tissue paper to stuffed socks and ripped t-shirts. This issue is also an obstruction to education – around half of girls have missed a day of school because of their period (Plan International UK).
We don’t believe (and we’re sure you don’t either) that young women should be forced to miss education because they cannot afford or don’t have access to the necessary products.
We’ve had a brilliant response so far, one of our star donations has come from one of our suppliers -Proctor and Gamble, who contributed a massive 11 boxes of Always to the cause!
Donations do not need to be of this scale to make a difference, in fact if you choose to donate on the JustGiving site, CJS Environmental Ltd will match your donation! Up to £500 raised across this campaign will be doubled. A brilliant £150 has been collected so far, but there is still so much more that can be done to strengthen our community.
